Boswellia Serrata (Indian Frankincense) – Boswellia has been used for thousands of years and for a long time has been recognised for its (fast acting) natural anti-inflammatory properties.

A botanical (medicine) Boswellia Serrata is available in powder form or as an extract in varying strengths.

What are extracts?
Whilst herbal powders do contain all of the good parts of the plants some do have their drawbacks when considering bioavaiability. This means that you may need a lot to take advantage of their amazing benefits. Extracts come in 2 forms – unstandardised and standardised. They can vary considerably in quality dependent upon the processing method used.
Extracts are generally more soluble – meaning they are more easily absorbed than standard powders. They are much ‘cleaner’ than powders as the processing removes any harmful microbes.
Unstandardised extracts can be identified by having a ratio in their description – 10:1, 5:1, etc. The drawback however is that there is no test to determine their potency.
Standardised extracts ensure the specific component required is extracted (in the case of Boswellia Serrata it is Boswellic Acid) and this is then analysed. You therefore know exactly what you have.
